Davis AZ...
Hello All,

Does anybody in this group have been to Togian recently for resort
based diving? Please post ease of travel to get there and quality of

Vic...
Is August 2003 (or 2002?) "recently" enough? That is when I spent 10
a small resort, owned and managed by Italians; at that time, they had
about 13 basic huts, with no hot water. I know things have changed:
they do have hot water and even a small spa. One thing I remember for
sure is that food was excellent.

diving.

Vic...
Getting to Walea... that is quite a pain. Wherever you come from, you
need to fly first to Manado then to Luwuk, get a 2.5-3 hours car ride
across the island, and a 1 hour boat ride to Walea.

Needless to say, you find yourself out of the world: great, great
colors, no human contacts except for a small fishermen village on the
island, possibly the best coral gardens I've ever seen. Plenty of
weird small critters, pristine environment. Viz was quite poor because
of the unusual rains they had had that summer, so I can't comment on
the big stuff... according to the DM, there is enough pelagic life but
I had no chance to spot anything.

Hope this helps.
Vic

chilly...
Togain? Where is it?

Whistler...
I found some vague references to an island in a bay in the North
Sulawesi area.

Sorry, meant to include a link.

I knew I could look it up but I was feeling lazy. Thanks for this. Looks
interesting . . .well, except for no air-conditioning.
