I had a pair of old Altec Lansing acs45.2 speakers that recently bit the
dust. For my casual needs, they did just great !! As I recall, these
speakers only cost me about $79.
I would like to find an equally-good or better set of speakers, with one
woofer and 2 satellites. I don't want a 5 piece set or anything like that.
However, I DO want a very nice set of speakers, within the price range
indicated.
I will shop eBay, new or used, in the $100-150 range. What would be
some very good pc speakers in this price range ??
I see that Dell has been branding some Altec Lansing pc speakers. What
are their best, (or close to the best) pc speakers that they now market?

LMAO @ Dell branded 'Altec Lansing' !
You're not by any chance under the mistaken impression that 'Altec Lansing' PC
speakers are related to the famous company are you ? They are btw in any event
somewhat better than the average Chinese offering.

So that makes them above-average Chinese offerings?

They are in fact rather better engineered than the average POS.
The Chinese have bought up several brands over the years. At the high end there's
Quad of course. When I was visiting an Oritron factory I saw that they'd acquired
the RCA brand and rather more intruigingly Koss. They make the Koss Pro4AA.

It certainly says more about us than them (the Chinese) that folks here
seem constantly surprised that they're capable of making high-quality
goods. My God, the Chinese are even making high-quality *violins* these

They are, and they are designed in Milford, Pennsylvania.

The maker of the PC speakers was formerly a car stereo company called
Sparkomatic. They bought the rights to the Altec name for car stereo
equipment back in the 1980's when Altec was going thru a bankruptcy. They
then dropped the Sparkomatic name.

That's because I was suing them.

They have opened a Pro division marketing Chinese Pro speakers. Not doing
well from what I hear.

No relationship to the original Altec.

Well it's all relative I guess.
I would consider the Behringer 2031A's to be reasonable Chinese offerings,
and make pretty good computer speakers IMO.

Thanks for any tips !!

For 150.00, you would probably be able to find a modest receiver
and a pair of speakers that will sound a lot better than computer
speakers.

I couldn't agree more.
