QD Steve...
I have a really dated Luxman L58a amp, circa 1978. However, the sound it
produces is really amazing but, it needs new FETS.Does anyone know where I
might be able to source such old components.

QD Steve...
Thank you for your input Trevor, also from Phil Allison on the other group.
No, I am not sure that they have all failed, I am coming to the conclusion
from my observations. As stated, when they were replaced sometime back, the

BUZ90x series of lateral MOSFETs are available in several different
package types (TO3, TO3P, and TO247) in a variety of different voltage
and amperage ranges. I've heard of them being used as substitutes for
the Hitachi parts (some adjustment of bias may be required).
**Then you need to learn electronics, buy some test equipment and proceed
accordingly.

As stated, when they were replaced sometime back, the

amp's performance improved dramatically. This time, volume has dropped right
off again, and only part of the heat sink was getting hot, leading me to
come to the conclusion one or more of these mosfets has failed.
I may have been mis-informed last time but I was told they should all be
replaced at once.

Trevor Wilson...
**You have been misinformed.

Another thing I experienced last time they were replaced, was the amp did
not perform very well when they where first replaced. After a number of
hours of use ( about 40 odd IIRC) the sound quality improved.

Trevor Wilson...
**I doubt that. MOSFETs do not age.

I am not an electronics person, how do I have these things tested. Including

**You learn electronics, or buy the right test equipment.

Including

the four original ones, I now have four of each and it would be so much
better if I could get four good ones out of the eight. Especially since Phil

**You should NEVER mix and match MOSFETs. Never ever.

Especially since Phil

has already said these are going to cost squillions, that is if I can find
them.
Again, I appreciate your help.

Trevor Wilson...
**I am starting to feel that you should take your amp to a tech.

**What are the part numbers?
